Prof Riaan Mulder qualified as a dentist in 2007 and holds a masters degree in Restorative Dentistry and a PhD in Paediatric Dentistry. His PhD in Paediatric Dentistry focussed on the development and improvement of various glass ionomers to increase the activity of these biomaterials for restorative purposes on tooth structure. He is the only permanent staff member in the UWC dental faculty that is rated for his research by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa. He obtained his Associate Professor title in 2022 and is the youngest in the UWC dental faculty to achieve this. Prof Mulder has been a national and international 3M key opinion leader since 2015 in Dental Materials. He regularly lectures to national and international dental fraternities.
